Mike Matoso, begins his 13th year with the University of San Diego, and is in his sixth year as USD's Senior Associate Athletic Director. He plays a pivotal role in managing an athletic department with 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate teams and over 450 student-athletes. He has the responsibility for the day-to-day operation and management of the department including compliance, personnel, programs, facilities and operations.

Mike also has direct supervision, including budget and fund raising, for five of USD's West Coast Conference teams - men's basketball, women's basketball, women's soccer, men's tennis and men's golf. For the past four school years, USD has won the prestigious WCC Commissioner's Cup trophy presented to the league member with the top performing athletics program in the eight-team West Coast Conference.

Within the Torero athletic department, he oversees all athletics facilities including minor capital projects and capital improvements, and is responsible for all game management activities including the development and implementation of ticketing procedures and the game day experience for fans.

He currently serves on two West Coast Conference committees (Championships and Sportsmanship), as well as one national committee (NCAA Cabinet for Student Athlete Welfare, Financial Aid and Extra Benefits). During the 2007-08 season he was Tournament Director for the West Coast Conference Basketball Championships played at the Jenny Craig Pavilion, and was the Tournament Manager for the 2008 NCAA Baseball Regional's played in San Diego. He is responsible for submitting all financial bids for all of San Diego's NCAA post-season events; is responsible for development of academic support and compliance programs, and helped develop the USD policy and procedure handbook.

Matoso had held the title of Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Administration beginning in the fall of 2003, and was the department's Compliance Coordinator for five years. Mike started his Torero career as the department's Academic Support Coordinator.

Prior to USD, he spent three years as the Academic Counselor at USC where he worked with the football, baseball, women's soccer, swimming and volleyball programs. Prior to USC, Mike served as the Academic Advisor for all 18 intercollegiate programs at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for two years as a graduate assistant. He earned both his B.S. degree in Physical Education (1993) and M.A. in Education, Counseling (1994) from Cal Poly. He was also a starting pitcher for the Mustangs baseball team that participated in the Division II College World Series.

Mike and his wife, Kelly, reside in Carlsbad with their three children, Abigail (11), Cole (8) and Brody (4).
