Rally Falls Short in Loss to Portland

USD will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. to try and even this WCC series.

FRESHMAN (2011): Earned 7 game starts and 9 appearances with an ERA of 7.60...totaling 34.1 innings pitched with 29 strikeouts...his first appearance came against opponent Winthrop, where he had one of his longest outings against Winthrop with 7 strikeouts in 7 innings pitched.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played baseball at Maranatha High School...he was drafted No. 14 overall in the 2010 MLB draft by the Milwaukee Brewers...as a senior, he was an AFKAC All-American, the 2010 Gatorade State Player of the Year in California and was a Baseball America first-team All-America selection...as a senior, he posted a 0.40 ERA with 138 strikeouts in 70.2 innings of work...he struck out 14 batters in two separate games as a senior, and had double-digit strikeouts in nine games... as a junior, he posted an ERA of 1.23, with 127 strikeouts in 68.1 innings of work...as a sophomore he posted a 0.69 ERA and racked up 141 strikeouts in 71.1 innings of work, and he also recorded a career-high 18 strikeouts against Rosamond on May 15, 2008.

PERSONAL: Dylan Covey was born on August 14, 1991 in Pasadena, Calif....he is the son of Darrell and Angela Covey...he was heavily recruited by UCLA, USC and Long Beach State...chose to attend USD because of the top baseball program and the prestigious academic reputation of USD.
