Wagner Named to Golden Spikes Award Watch List

MIchael Wagner joins Kris Bryant on the Golden Spikes Award Watch List.

FRESHMAN (2011): Earned All-WCC Freshman Honors with two game starts and 15 game appearances as a right-handed pitcher...with an ERA of 2.97 in 30.1 innings at work with 28 strikeouts...had his first start and longest outing of 4 innings pitched against New Orleans (4/3/2011)...recorded his best outing on May 1, 2011, in the win over Saint Mary's with six strikeouts in just two innings of work.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played baseball at Centennial High School...was named second-team All-State, second-team All-Sunset Division and first-team All-Northwest Conference as a senior after posting a 4-5 record with a 2.21 ERA...as a junior, he was named second-team All-Sunset Division, and first-team All-Northwest Conference after posting a 5-2 record with a 2.50 ERA...in his sophomore season, he was named first-team All-Northwest Conference, first-team All-Sunset Division and second-team All-Southern Nevada after going 6-2 with a 2.05 ERA...and as a freshman, he posted a perfect 5-0 record with a 3.95 ERA...he was drafted in the 28th round of the 2010 MLB June draft by the Boston Red Sox.

PERSONAL: Michael Wagner was born on October 3, 1991...he is the son of Ralph and Debbie Wagner...he was heavily recruited by USC, Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount and UNLV...he chose to attend USD because of the baseball program...his brother Matthew played baseball at UNLV...he notes that he likes to play golf in addition to baseball.
