FRESHMAN (2007): Made two appearances...helped team win the WCC regular-season Championship...helped Toreros achieve a program-best No. 4 national ranking...posted a 0-0 record with an ERA of 20.25. HIGH SCHOOL: Earned four varsity letters in baseball while playing at Horizon High School...helped his team win four consecutive Coastal League Championships...as a sophomore he hit .415 and had an ERA of 0.18 en route to being selected as a first-team All-CIF Division IV honoree...helped his team to the CIF Championship game as a junior...as a senior he posted a .525 batting average en route to being named first-team All-CIF Division IV, second-team All-CIF San Diego and first-team All-State for small schools...as a senior also took home Pitcher of the Year honors...also was standout on the basketball court helping lead is team to a state championship and three CIF San Diego Championships...also played football and helped his team get to the CIF Championship game. PERSONAL: Steven Winnick was born on Sept. 16, 1987...is the son of John and Dorothy Winnick...was also recruited by UC Davis, UC Irvine, Dartmouth, Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside...chose to attend USD because of the location, high standard of academics and because of the excellent baseball program. |
