(Hilo, Hawaii) - Nate Boman registered eight strikeouts over seven innings and San Diego broke open a close game in the eighth, defeating host Hawaii-Hilo 12-1 Thursday night. San Diego (2-3) has taken the first two games of a five-game series with Hawaii-Hilo (0-2), which will continue with a single game Friday at 8pm (PT) and conclude with a double-header Saturday beginning at 1pm (PT).

Sophomore outfielder Shane Buschini went 3-for-5 and scored three runs and classmate Jordan Abruzzo continued his torrid hitting pace by going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Boman (1-0) worked his longest outing as a collegiate starter, pitching seven complete innings before USD added to its 4-1 lead. Second baseman Keoni Ruth singled and Abruzzo doubled to begin a three-run Torero eighth inning to insure Boman and San Diego the victory.

Hawaii-Hilo committed five errors in contributing to a USD offense that scored a number of different ways. USD received two RBI sacrifice flies from Steve Singleton. Buschini stole home and both he and Abruzzo scored via a wild pitch, while Ryan Lilly twice scored off Hilo fielding miscues.

Following Boman the relief combination of Sean Warlop (eighth) and Matt Falk (ninth) threw two hitless innings.
