The Toreros continued to chip away at the lead as they took back one more run in the top of the fourth inning. Zach Walters got things started with a stand-up triple to right centerfield, and two batters later, Bryan Haar drove him in with a run-scoring double to left centerfield to cut the lead to one at 3-2.

The Lions then took advantage of a pair of costly USD fielding errors to score an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning to push the lead to two at 4-2.

For the second consecutive inning, the Toreros scored one run on a solo home run, this time is was Green's second of the game, to cut the led to one at 6-5, but that is as close as the Toreros would come, as the Lions held on to take game one.
