SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team remained at No. 11 in the latest Baseball America top-25 poll. USD also moved up one spot to No. 14 in the latest Rivals.com top-25 poll and fell to No. 27 in the latest Collegiate Baseball to-30 poll.
The Toreros opened the season with a 2-1 record at the MLB Urban Youth Academy Tournament this past weekend to open the 2009 season. The Toreros opened with a 6-4 win over Southern University, then on Saturday, USD picked up a 9-6 win over Bethune-Cookman. On Sunday, San Diego State gave USD's its lone loss on the season, a 3-0 decision. At USD's Cunningham Stadium. In Friday's game, Sophomore left-hander Sammy Solis was rock solid on the mound for the Toreros as he allowed one run on four hits, while striking out a career-high nine batters over six innings of work. In Saturday's win over BCU, Kevin Muno led the Toreros with three hits and one home run, while Austin Green and Victor Sanchez had two RBI apiece with Sanchez also going yard once. In Sunday's loss, Muno and Steven Chatwood each recorded one hit.
The Toreros will return to action on Tuesday as they host No. 16 Oklahoma for a two-game set at Cunningham Stadium.
