SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior All-American third baseman Kris Bryant of the University of San Diego baseball team was tabbed the Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week, the publication announced Monday morning.
Bryant, a 6-5 third baseman from Las Vegas, Nev., helped lead USD to a perfect 4-0 record this past week, as he paced the team's offense going 7-for-14 (.500) with one double, five home runs and six RBI. Bryant slugged at a 1.643 clip and had an on base percentage of .650, and was walked six times. He hit at least one home run in all four games this past week. With his five home runs, Bryant set a new USD single-season record for home runs with 20, and he has now tied the career home run record with 43. Bryant began the week going 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI against UC Santa Barbara. After going 1-for-3 against Santa Clara in the series opener, he went 3-for-3 with a home run in the Saturday win over SCU, which gave him the USD single-season record, and he capped the week with a 1-for-4 one home run performance to tie the USD career home run record.
Bryant and the Toreros will return to action on Tuesday when they host UC Riverside in a 6 p.m. non-cnference game at Fowler Park.
