GAME #26: The USD Toreros (13-12; 6-4 WCC), coming off a huge 74-68 win over BYU Thursday night, return to the Jenny Craig Pavilion Saturday to play host to the Saint Mary's Gaels (20-4, 9-1 WCC). Game time is slated for 8:05 pm.

This is the 75th meeting between USD and Saint Mary's College with the Gaels owning a 39-35 edge...The Gaels have won three straight in the series including an 81-48 win in Moraga back on January 24th... Last season SMC won on their home court (84-73) and at the JCP on January 5th, 2012 (78-72)... USD's last win over SMC came at the JCP on Feb. 16, 2011 when the Toreros upset the #23-ranked Gaels, 74-66.
RADIO-TV: All USD home and away games will be broadcast live on The Mighty 1090 or ESPN 1700 AM with Andy Masur (6th season) bringing you all the action; his pre-game shows air 15 minutes prior to tip-off. Saturday's game airs on The Mighty 1090. The game will be televised on ESPNU (Roxy Bernstein and Corey Williams).
A LOOK AHEAD: Following Saturday's game with Saint Mary's, the Toreros begin a three-game road swing with a Feb. 14th game at Santa Clara University.

COACH GRIER (6TH YEAR): Coach Bill Grier (Oregon, 1990) is in his sixth season at the helm of the USD program... He enters the SMC contest with a 13-12 mark and 6-4 WCC record... Last season's squad finished 13-18, but won 4 of its final 6 regular-season WCC games and then advanced to the quarterfinals of the WCC Championships before falling to BYU by just 5 points... The 2010-11 season was highlighted by a 74-66 home win over #23 Saint Mary's, along with a 67-64 win over Utah... The 2009-10 season was highlighted by wins over Stanford, #25 Oklahoma, Houston and Boise State... His 2008-09 campaign (16-16) was highlighted by road wins over Oregon and Mississippi State... In his rookie year (2007-08) he guided the Toreros to an overall mark of 22-14 and 3rd place finish in the WCC race at 11-3... He guided the Toreros to three wins and the championship title at the WCC Tournament with wins over Pepperdine, Saint Mary's and No. 20 Gonzaga... The Toreros then upset No. 15 UCONN in the NCAA Tournament opener with a 70-69 overtime victory, before falling to Western Kentucky in the second round... His 11 WCC wins were the second most for league wins in a single season in program history... Grier is USD's 11th head coach overall and just the 4th head coach since the Torero program moved to the NCAA Division I ranks in 1979-80... His 22 wins in 2007-08 were also the most by a Torero coach in his first season at USD. In addition to knocking off Kentucky on the road, 81-72, the Toreros earned three wins over Top-25 teams: #21 Saint Mary's, #20 Gonzaga and #15 Connecticut... Bill and his wife, Nicole, have two daughters, Giselle & Ashley.
TORERO TIDBITS: The Toreros find themselves in sole possession of 4th place in the WCC race with their 6-4 mark after Thursday's big win over BYU... This was USD's first win against BYU in seven tries... USD continues to lead all WCC schools in three-point percentage defense (.305; #46 in nation), and rank 2nd in blocked shots (4.2 per game) and 3rd in scoring defense (65.0 ppg)... With his 19 point performance against BYU, Johnny Dee has moved up to 8th overall among WCC scorers with his 14.9 ppg average... He ranks 2nd in free throw percentage (.886) and 3-pointers made per game (2.3)... Point guard Christopher Anderson is 2nd in the WCC in steals (2.3; #24 in nation) and 3rd in assists (5.7; #31 in nation)... Jito Kok is tied for first in blocked shots at 1.8 per contest... For WCC games only, Dee is the lone Torero averaging in double-digits with his 14.4 points per game average... Over their last two wins against LMU and BYU, the Toreros are being paced by Dee (17.0 ppg), Ken Rancifer (13.5 ppg) and Chris Manresa (11.0 ppg & 9.0 rpg)... Anderson (9.5 ppg, 6.0 assists) and Dennis Kramer (8.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg) have also made significant contributions.
TOREROS AT THE JCP: USD is 9-4 at home this season and snapped a 2-game home skid with a huge 74-68 win over BYU on Thursday... USD has won 7 of their last 9 games at the JCP... The Toreros are averaging 70.2 ppg while limiting opponents to 64.1 ppg (+6.1 scoring margin)... Johnny Dee averages 16.3 ppg at the JCP, and is followed by Christopher Anderson (9.9 ppg), Ken Rancifer (9.9 ppg) and Chris Manresa (8.9 ppg, 6.9 rpg).
SCOUTING THE SAINT MARY'S GAELS: The SMC Gaels (20-4; 9-1 WCC) come to town riding an eight game winning streak... They are currently 20-4 overall and 9-1 in the WCC with their lone loss a tough 83-78 loss at Gonzaga back on January 10th... This past Thursday they traveled to Santa Clara where they dealt the Broncos a convincing 84-63 loss... Forward Beau Levesque came off the bench to score a game-high 24 points... He was followed by forward Brad Waldow (14 points, 8 rebounds) and forward Mitchell Young (12 points, 9 rebounds)... The Gaels shot 55.6% from the field (30-54) and canned 12-of-20 three-pointers (60%).... For the season SMC is paced by senior guard Matthew Dellavedova (15.8 ppg, 6.6 assists)... He is followed by guard Stephen Holt (11.7 ppg) and Levesque (11.0 ppg)... For the season the Gaels are averaging 78.0 points while limiting opponents to just 64.0 points (+14.0 scoring margin)... In first meeting this season between SMC and USD, Levesque with 20 points... Head Coach Randy Bennett, a former USD assistant, is in his 12th season at the helm of Gaels program.
