(San Diego, CA) - University of San Diego men's basketball head coach Bill Grier and his staff announced the signing of Jordan Mackie (Los Angeles, CA; Dorsey HS) to a national letter of intent and scholarship agreement. Mackie, a 6-4, 185 lb. shooting guard, joins five other newcomers for the upcoming 2009-10 campaign.
"We are excited to have an athlete of Jordan's caliber on the perimeter," said Torero head coach Bill Grier. "He has an immense amount of potential and we're are excited about his future at USD."
This past season Mackie earned 2nd Team All-Los Angeles honors after averaging 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.9 steals for Dorsey High School. A McDonald's All-America nominee, he poured in a season high 32 points on January 12th against Manuel Arts High School. In a 102-98 victory over Centennial (TN) he dished out 8 assists while also collecting 8 steals, and twice he grabbed 9 rebounds (vs. Fremont & Silverado). He was named to two All-Tournament teams (the Amare Stoudemire-sponsored Each One Teach One (STAT) Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada; and the Bluegrass Holiday Classic in Kentucky). Additionally, he was the team's Mos Valuable Player and Best Rebounder and Scorer.
Mackie joins five other new players that will be competing on the 2009-10 Torero squad - Chris Manresa, a 6-8, 245 lb. forward from Tesoro High School in Mission Viejo, California; Ken Rancifer, a 6-5, 215 lb. forward from El Cerrito High School in El Cerrito, California; Cameron Miles, a 6-1, 160 lb. point guard from Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas; Patrick McCollom, a 6-3, 180 lb. guard from San Diego, CA who played at Phoenix Westwind Academy this past year; and Rafael Crescencio, a 6-9, 220 lb. forward-center from Santo Andre, Brazil who played at Arizona Western College the past two seasons.
