San Diego sophomore guard Johnny Dee (Vista, CA) has earned his second West Coast Conference player of the week award in less than a month after leading the Toreros to two wins this past week. Dee averaged 20.0 points in wins over Southern Utah (67-53) and Tulane (78-72) to get USD's record back to even at 5-5.
Dee scored a team-high 17 points back on December 4th in USD's win at Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah. Against the Thunderbirds he scored 13 of his 17 points in the first half as USD jumped out to a 36-22 intermission lead. He made three treys in the first half including a buzzer-beater just before the break.
Against a Tulane team this past Saturday that came to San Diego riding a 7-2 record, Dee scored 15 points of his game-high 23 points in the 2nd half. His play in the first 20 minutes was limited due to him picking up 2 early fouls. For the game Dee made 5-of-9 three pointers for the contest, and 7-of-11 shots overall.
For the two games Dee combined to shoot 60% from the floor (12-20), 57.1% from behind the arc (8-14) and was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line. He also chipped in with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
He enters Tuesday's home game against Arizona Christian University (4-1) with a team-best 15.4 points per game average. Among WCC players he ranks 10th in scoring, 3rd in 3-pointers made per game (2.5), 4th in free throw percentage (.871) and 7th in 3-point shooting percentage (.455).
