Tanner Engstrand enters his fourth season with the Torero football team, and his second as the running backs coach. Additionally, he has been promoted to Director of Football Operations. Last season the Toreros running attack was solid with junior JT Rogan leading the way with 1,021 yards and 10 touchdowns. All told, the USD ground game averaged 185.8 yards of rushing per game.
In 2006 Tanner was an offensive assistant for the 11-1 Toreros that ranked first in the nation in total offense and scoring. The past two seasons he worked with football operations where he helped with all equipment duties and daily football operations.
Engstrand was a two-year letterman at San Diego State University (2003-2004) where he played quarterback. He saw limited action in his two seasons, serving mainly as a backup. Before enrolling at SDSU he was a First Team All-Foothill Conference and Academic All-America quarterback at Grossmont College in El Cajon, California during the 2002 season. He is currently enrolled at USD where he is working on his Master's degree in Business Administration.
