Toreros opener against Azusa Pacific

Toreros defeat Azusa Pacific 24-12 in 2009 season opener.

USD: Second year Torero will compete on special teams with kicking duties... Last year converted 1-of-2 field goals with a 48-yarder against Azusa Pacific.

Junior College: Attended San Diego Mesa Community College... Named an All-Mountain Conference kicker and California Junior College All-State performer in 2008...Team went 7-5 and won the Mountain Conference championship in '08 as well.

High School: Prepped at Ramona HS...Three-year letterman in football for the Bulldawgs... In his sophomore year, went 3-for-5 in field goals... Was 12-for-17 in field goals during his junior year, being named an All-San Diego and All-State kicker...team went 8-4 and won a Valley League championship... Named an All-San Diego kicker during his senior year after going 9-for-14 in field goals... Team went 7-5 and won their second consecutive league championship.

Personal: Born on February 15, 1989... Parents are Warren and Wanda Shurson of Ramona, CA... Chose USD because of its location close to home... Also recruited by Abilene Christian University, Azusa Pacific, and Southern Utah.
