SAN DIEGO, Calif - The University of San Diego football (3-3, 2-1) cruised to 44-0 victory over the Campbell Fighting Camels (1-5, 0-3) to extend the Toreros home win streak to ten.
The Toreros were led by freshman running back Dallas Kessman, who scored four rushing touchdowns in his first career start.
The game was never in doubt as the Toreros scored on seven of their first eight possessions and outgained the Camels 516-79 in total yardage.
Kessman capped off the first two Toreros scoring drives with one yard rushing touchdowns giving the Toreros a 14-0 lead with 4:36 left in the first quarter.
The Camels fumbled the ensuing kickoff, which set up a David Last 26 yard field goal.
The Toreros added two more touchdowns in the second quarter. Kessman scored his third rushing touchdown from four yards out, and junior quarterback Mason Mills scored a one yard rushing touchdown with five seconds remaining in the first half to give USD a 31-0 lead at halftime.
The Toreros opened up the second half with a 17-play 75 yard drive that was capped off by another Kessman one yard rushing touchdown. Kessman finished with 77 yards on 16 carries and his four touchdowns tied a USD school record.
Ernie Collins connected on two second half field goals (32 & 26 yards) to bring the final score to 44-0.
Mills was nearly perfect on the day, going 19-20 for 217 yards to go along with his rushing touchdown. Sophomore Brandon White had five receptions for 66 yards to lead all Torero receivers.
Senior defensive tackle Dustin Geyer led USD with seven tackles and Steve Gargiulo and Weston Yahn each chipped in a sack. Sophomore safety Tyler Barclay recorded an interception late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The Toreros have a big test next Saturday when they take travel to take on Jacksonville (6-1, 4-0), who is undefeated in the Pioneer League. Kickoff is at 10:00 a.m.
