(Chula Vista, CA) - The USD Toreros are competing at the San Diego Intercollegiate today and tomorrow in Chula Vista at the San Diego Country Club (par 72; 7,033 yards). After the completion of the first round the Toreros were tied for 8th overall with a score of 306. Senior Alex Ching (Honolulu, HI) fired a first round 2-over par 74 and was tied for 17th. He was followed by Grant Forrest (T29 at 75), Linus Vaisanen (T56 at 78), Alexis Gemme-Piacente (T63 at 79) and Leon Knoll (T75 at 81). Washington (284) and USC (288) were leading the event.

The Toreros were doing better in the second round and had moved up to a tie for 3rd overall when play was suspended. Ching was 2-under with three holes to play in his second round was in a tie for 3rd overall. Two Toreros were playing as individuals - Joe Carlson (1st round 74) and Taylor Schmidt (77).

The second round tomorrow morning will begin at 8:30 am. The third and final round will be a shotgun start (not tee times), beginning as soon as the golfers are finished with round two. The pairings and the starting holes will remain the same as they were in rounds 1-2.

The tournament, which is being co-hosted by both USD and SDSU, is free to the public.
