(Hollister, CA) - The USD men's golf team moved up to 5th place with one round to go at the 2012 West Coast Conference Championships being played at San Juan Oaks Golf Club (par 72; 6712 yards) in Hollister, California. The Toreros shot a second round team score of 284 (-4) and now sit at 581 (+5) with tomorrow's final round scheduled to tee-off at 8am.
Grant Forrest fired a 3-under par 69 today and currently sits in a tie for 2nd overall at 139 (70-69). Ching, the 2011 WCC Player of the Year, carded a 2-under par 70 and now is tied for 8th overall at 142 (72-70).
Freshman Alexis Gemme-Piacente fired a 1-under par 71 and moved up to a tie for 22nd at 5-over par 149 (78-71). Rounding out Torero scoring was Joe Carlson (T33 at 152; 78-74) and Leon Knoll (39th at 159; 77-82).
Saint Mary's College continued their solid play and still lead the tournament after two rounds with a total of 561 (-15). San Francisco turned in the day's best team score with a 10-under par 278 and moved within 6 strokes of the Gaels at 567. Jonathan De Los Reye of Saint Mary's held onto his individual lead and sits at 138 (65-73), just one stroke better than USD's Forrest and BYU's Zachary Blair (65-73).
Tomorrow's final round will tee-off at 8:00 am.
