Lihue, Hawaii - The USD men's golf team is in first place after round one of the 2009 Kauai Collegiate Invitational being held in Lihue, Hawaii on the Puakea Golf Course (par 72; 6,953 yards). USD shot a team score of 276 (12-under par) and lead second place James Madison by 10 strokes.
Four Toreros find themselves in the top six - Ben Murray (t3rd at 68), Gunner Wiebe (t6th at 69) and Alex Ching (t6th at 69). USD newcomer Joseph Harrison, playing as an individual, is tied for 3rd after carding a 68. Rounding out USD scoring is Jason Shano (t13 at 70) and Scott Brace (t19 at 72). Other Toreros competing as individuals include Kenneth McCready (70) and Leon Knoll (75).
The three-round tournament, which USD won in 2008, continues Tuesday and wraps up on Wednesday. Hawaii's Thomas Kua and LMU's Boris Stantchev are the clubhouse leaders after shooting opening round 67's.
