San Diego, Calif. - The University of San Diego golf team will compete in the 2014 Lamkin San Diego Classic on March 10-11 at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, California. USD, along with SDSU, will co-host this event which is one of the premiere NCAA Division I collegiate tournaments in the country. This year's field is comprised of some of the best teams in college golf as well as three local San Diego collegiate golf programs.
Besides No. 81 USD and No. 51 SDSU, there are three other teams currently ranked in the top 100 by golfweek.com in the 13-team tournament. No. 22 USC is the top-ranked team in the tournament, which also features No. 28 Wake Forest, and No. 69 Oregon State. Rounding out the tournament field is Notre Dame, Michigan, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, Utah, Seattle and Saint Joseph's. Cal State University at San Marcos, currently ranked No. 11 in NAIA, will also compete.
Nine of the top 130 golfers in the country will be here competing led by No. 32 Anthony Paolucci (USC), No. 37 Thomas Birdsey (Wake Forest), No. 45 Rico Hoey (USC), No. 53 David Fink (Oregon State), No. 70 Grant Forrest (USD), No. 79 Xander Schaufelle (SDSU), No. 99 Danny Guise (Wake Forest), No. 125 Jeffrey Kang (USC), and No. 129 Ricky DeSantis (SDSU).
On Monday, March 10th, the tournament will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a shotgun start with plans to complete two rounds. The third and final round will begin on Tuesday, March 11th, at 7:30 a.m. with groups going off tees #1 and #10. The tournament is free to the public both days. The tournament will be preceded by a College-Am on Sunday, March 9th with shotgun starts at 8:00 a.m. and 12:45 pm.
