On Saturday, May 10th at 2:00 p.m., the USD men's golf team and staff will meet and greet with some of the younger members of Pro Kids. Pro Kids is the San Diego section of the national First Tee program. Most of the kids at Pro Kids come from underprivileged families and Pro Kids is a way to help these kids build life skills while providing a safe haven to learn and provide a place to play golf. On Saturday, the USD golf team will compete against some of the kids at Pro Kids in a friendly Ryder Cup style format.
Before playing however, the 2008 WCC Champion USD golf team will get a tour of the Pro Kids facility in City Heights. In addition, with compliments of Callaway Golf and John Plewes, USD will be donating 4 sets of Callaway Golf Junior sets to the Pro Kids facility.
"I think Pro Kids is a great cause and I'm privileged to be able to have my team be a part of it, even if on a very small level," said USD golf coach Tim Mickelson. "My players and I are all very blessed in life and I think it is a great idea to give back when we can. I'm thankful that John Plewes and Callaway Golf agree that Pro Kids is a good cause and I thank them for donating the sets of golf clubs that we will be donating. It is going to be a fun day for everyone and I'm glad we are able to coordinate it. I'm hoping my players will take it one step further and will offer to act as big brothers to some of the kids at the facility. These are great kids who can really thrive in life if given some direction and some support."
