Alex Chiarella, who signed an NLI with the USD men's golf program for the 2012-13 school year, recently won the 2011 Hali'imaile Pineapple Company Tournament of Champions over December 3-4. Chiarella won by four strokes as his 8-under par 136 total (66-70) was four strokes better than two runner-up players, as well as 8 stokes clear of Aaron Kunitomo, who signed a 2012 NLI with UCLA.

The event was held at the Wailea Golf Club and played on the Emerald Course. In his first round 66, Chiarella carded 9 birdies in shooting 32-34. The win gives him entry into the Sony Skins Challenge in Oahu, an event he competed in last year with Matt Kuchar. He is also preparing for the upcoming Hawaii Open, Sony prequalifier and the Qualifiers at Turtle Bay.
