SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team suffered an overtime loss at Sacramento State Friday night. The Hornets got up in the second half before USD tied the game in the 89th minute to force the overtime period. But Sacramento State wasted little time in overtime as Matt Linenberger found the back of the net in the 91st minute with a diving header off a long free kick that ended the contest.
Sophomore Thomas Fiskerstrand notched his first career goal for the Toreros (0-2-0) when he scored off a diving header of his own coming off a Dan Delgado free kick. Fiskerstrand's goal was one of seven shots on goal for the Toreros, who were outshot 20-12 on the night.
Sacramento State (1-1-0) got their first goal from Chris Sandoval when he took advantage of an empty net and connected with a long shot from midfield to put the Hornets up 1-0 in the 65th minute.
Delgado led the Toreros with four shots in the contest. USD keeper Michael D'Arrigo (0-2-0) recorded six saves in the loss, while Bryan Oliver tallied the win for Sac State, making six saves in the process.
The Toreros return to action on Sept. 7th when they host Ohio State at 7:00 pm at Torero Stadium.
