SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over Houston Baptist on Sunday evening in a neutral site contest at the San Diego State Sports Deck. The Toreros (2-2-0) got goals from Patrick Wallen and Elijah Galbraith-Knapp on the day.
USD got on the board early when Conor McFadden slipped a pass to Wallen near the left side of the six-yard box that Wallen handled, firing a low shot past Houston Baptist keeper Zach Harwerth in the 11th minute for his first goal of the season.
Galbraith-Knapp added to the lead with his second goal of the year in the 54th minute when he corralled a rebound off the Houston Baptist keeper right in front of the goal and slipped it in for the score to put USD up 2-0.
Both teams' offensive attacks were fairly evenly matched as USD held a slight edge in shots on the night, 12-11, while both teams had three corner kicks apiece. Of the Toreros' 12 shots, seven were on goal, including a number of good looks that just missed from Julian Ringhof and James Cohn.
Michael D'Arrigo (2-2-0) recorded five saves for USD in the win, while the Huskies (2-3-0) used two goalies in the contest. Harwerth (2-3-0) started and allowed one goal before being replaced in the 17th minute by Kevin Suarez, who allowed one goal and tallied four saves.
USD looks to continue their winning ways with a 7:30 pm showdown with No. 9 UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Sept. 14th at Torero Stadium.
