The University of San Diego men's soccer team extended their winning streak Friday night to two as they defeated the Gonzaga Bulldogs 3-0 to remain undefeated in WCC play. The Toreros have no goals scored against them thus far in conference action.
The Toreros out-shot Gonzaga by a 16-8 margin as the Toreros improve to 2-5-3 overall and 2-0-0 in WCC play while the Bulldogs fall to 5-5-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the WCC.
San Diego broke the ice in the 20th minute when Tim Muravez for the Bulldogs fouled midfielder Dane McCleary inside the penalty box. JT Howlan lined up the shot from the PK marker as he stutter stepped in his approach sending goalkeeper Scott Barnum diving left and the ball to the right, low and into the corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Toreros scored again with 44 seconds remaining in the first half. Defender Eddie Ahman passed on a through ball over the heads of Gonzaga defenders on the near side. Ochoa was inside the box left of the keeper tapping in the shot from 12 yards out lifting the Toreros to a 2-0 lead.
Trevor May scored from the left corner of the goalie box in the 57th minute. Howlan weaved his way through defenders 20 yards out from the Bulldog goal passing it to May who was just outside the left corner of the goalie box slipping it past Barnum for the 3-0 win.
Each team committed 20 fouls in the match. Both goalkeepers tallied five saves each. The Bulldogs inched out USD on corner kicks 3-2.
San Diego wraps up their two-match homestand on Sunday afternoon when the Portland Pilots travel to Torero Stadium for their match set to kickoff at 1:00 p.m.
