SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The much anticipated start to the 2010 campaign has arrived for the University of San Diego men's soccer team as it opens the season on the road this year against Cal-State Northridge on Wednesday evening.
"We've had a great fall camp and the men are ready to take the field," said head coach Seamus McFadden. "Northridge is a good team and we're looking forward to a competitive match against them."
The reigning West Coast Conference champions lost a number of key starters for USD but head coach Seamus McFadden and his staff has been hard at work reloading and anticipates a solid core of athletes to step-up and lead the team back to the post-season.
USD will play two matches this weekend starting with Northridge on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. on the road at the Matador Soccer Field. Northridge came off a 0-0 tie against the Aztecs last week. USD holds a 13-8-0 record against the Matadors winning the last two matches, the most recent being a 2-0 victory on September 1, 2009.
The Toreros will face the Aztecs on Sunday for the second consecutive year. The crosstown rival match will be 18th meeting between the two teams and the first on the Torero's home field since 2002 when USD won 3-0.
San Diego and CSU Northridge will take the field at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1 at Matador Soccer Field.
