The Toreros garnered four first-place votes
Cal State Northridge Matadors (4-3-0)
Top Scorers: Sagi Lev-Ari (6 G/12 Pts.); Edwin Rivas (3 G/1 A/7 Pts.); Beto Velasquez (3 G/1A/7 Pts.); Carlos Benavidos (4 A/4 Pts.)
In Goal: Michael Abalos (6 GP/8 GA/1.33 GAA/17 SV/3-3-0/1 SHO)
Notables: The Toreros have won the past three meetings with the Matadors dating back to 2005... Six different players have scored goals for CSUN this season... CSUN is coming off back-to-back wins over Army (5-0; 9/14) and Temple (2-1; 9/16)... The Matadors are outscoring opponents 15-8 this season and outshooting them 135-71.
Cal State Fullerton Titans (2-6-0)

Notables: This is the first meeting between these teams since 2003 when they finished in a 0-0 tie... The Titans are coming off a 3-1 victory over Syracuse in the UNLV Nike Invitational... Their other win came in double overtime vs. UNLV (2-1; 9/2)... Fullerton is being outscored by opponents by a 16-9 margin but only trails opponents by one shot (116-115).
JUST COMING UP SHORT: While the scores haven't seemed to do the games justice, USD has been very competitive with the two Top-25 opponents they have faced so far this season. In both games the Toreros have held their opponents in check defensively by not allowing a goal in the first half in either matchup. Against No. 13 UCI (8/24), the Toreros held a 7-6 first half advantage in shots, while against No. 6 UCSB (9/14), USD got a number of outstanding first half saves from GK Michael D'Arrigo. With the exception of a nine minute span where the Gauchos scored three goals, the Toreros were right in the mix.
WEEK'S TOP PERFORMER: Jr. MF Elijah Galbraith-Knapp won his first career WCC Player of the Week honor on Sept. 10 after notching goals in each of USD's victories. He scored his first goal of the season, a game winner, in a 2-0 victory over Ohio State this on Sept. 7 before following it up with an insurance goal against Houston Baptist in another 2-0 win on Sept. 9. Galbraith-Knapp is the first Torero to take home player of the week honors since Sam Reeder in 2009.
USD VS. THE BIG WEST: The Toreros have five Big West opponents on their schedule this season, not including a preseason scrimmage at UC Riverside. So far, the Toreros are winless in three contests against Big West foes. USD lost to No. 13 UC Irvine 2-0 on Aug. 24, at Sacramento State 2-1 in overtime on Aug. 31 and 3-0 at home to No. 6 UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 14. This week's matchups with Cal State Northridge and Cal State Fullerton are the final Big West opponents for the 2012 regular season. USD is 2-8-0 against Big West opponents over the past five seasons, including their three losses in 2012.
THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM: MF Dan Delgado became the third consecutive Torero to win WCC Player of the Year honors after taking home the recognition last season. He followed current teammate Patrick Wallen (2010) and Ryan Peterman (2009). Delgado tallied a total of nine points in 2011 (2g/5a) while ranking second in the WCC in assists during WCC play (5). He has led the team in assists the past two seasons.
LEAVING HIS MARK: Sr. F Patrick Wallen enters the 2012 campaign tied for seventh in USD history in career goals scored (22). Wallen had a career-high 12 goals in 2010 and scored three goals in 2011. USD's all-time leader in goals scored is Guillermo Jara, who scored 51 goals from 1992-95.
BREAKING IN: Despite missing time in 2011 due to injury, RS-Jr. GK Michael D'Arrigo entered the 2012 season in the top-10 in three categories in the USD record book: 8th in career saves (57), 8th in both career games started in goal and games played in goal (21/23) and 9th in career shutouts (6).
LOOKING FOR AN OPENING: The 2012 Toreros are a team deep with experience as they return a total of 20 letterwinners from a year ago, including seven starters. Overall, USD returns 12 players who played in at least half of the team's 19 games in 2011. Trying to break in will be a crop of five true freshmen and four transfers, all of whom already have NCAA soccer experience under their belts. RS-Jr. D Julian Ringhof was an all-conference and all-region selection at Cal State Los Angeles, while So. MF Connor Brandt tallied four goals last season at Cal State Dominguez Hills. So. MF Sigurd Pryser played in 17 games with 13 starts last season at Div. III North Park University and So. F Keegan Smith played in 16 games at Cal Poly SLO in 2011.
