SAN BRUNO, Calif. - University of San Diego goalkeeper Drew Ilijevski has been named to the West Coast Conference men's soccer All-Academic team, as announced on Friday afternoon. Ilijevski, a redshirt sophomore from San Diego, holds a 3.49 GPA and is majoring in business administration with a minor in chemistry.
This is the first WCC All-Academic honor for Ilijevski. Earlier this season he was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 team.
On the field, Ilijevski has been a key cog in the Torero defense that has helped USD (10-7-0, 8-2-0 WCC) take over first place in the conference standings. Ilijevski has started nine of the 11 contests he's appeared in this season, including winning his first eight starts in goal after taking over as the starter on Sept. 30. His 1.19 goals against average is the fourth-best in the WCC this season and he has an 8-2-0 record in goal with 34 saves and three shutouts to his credit.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
Ilijevski and the Toreros are closing out the regular season this weekend looking to clinch their first WCC title since 2009. USD hosts Saint Mary's at 7pm on Friday, Nov. 9 and Santa Clara at 2pm on Sunday, Nov. 11.
