Toreros down Saint Mary's for 4th straight win

Feb. 23, 2008

(San Diego, CA) - The USD men's tennis team capped off their weekend with a hard-fought 4-3 win over the Saint Mary's Gaels. USD swept all three doubles matches to earn the all-important doubles point, then received three-set victories at the top of the lineup from senior Thomas Liversage and freshman Dean Jackson to help USD to its fourth straight win and improve their record to 5-4 on the year. USD looked strong by quickly securing the doubles point with three straight match wins. Besides Liversage and Jackson, USD received a 6-4, 6-1 win from Chris Coetzee at No. 4 singles over Achim Christner.

"It was a hard fought match," said interim head coach David Anderton. "Saint Mary's is a very tough, feisty team. But the exceptional play of Liversage and Jackson has been able to carry our team of late."

The Toreros return to action on February 28th when they host crosstown rival San Diego State in a 1:30 p.m. match at the USD West Tennis Courts.
