NAPA, Calif. - Sophomore Uros Petronijevic went undefeated in singles play during the Napa Valley Tennis Classic to win the Solinco USTA Wildcard Shootout Sunday afternoon.
Petronijevic, who was ranked No. 119 in the preseason ITA rankings, went a perfect 3-0 over the weekend in group five to advance to the Wildcard Shootout. In the shootout, Petronijevic outlasted Florida State's Benjamin Lock 12-10 in the first round after saving seven match points
In the semi-finals Petronijevic knocked off Texas A&M's 11th ranked Jeremy Efferding 10-6, who had knocked off USD's Clarke Spinosa earlier in the day.
In the Solinco USTA Wildcard Shootout Finals, Petronijevic defeated Alabama's 95th ranked Daniil Proskura 10-8. Petronijevic now qualifies to compete in a future USTA Pro Circuit event.
Spinosa extended his singles win streak to 15 on Saturday when he defeated Mitch Stewart of the United States National Junior Team. However Spinosa's streak was snapped by A&M's 11th ranked Efferding after a 6-3, 6-3 win.
After winning their doubles match on Friday, Spinosa and Petronijevic lost their Saturday contest 8-5 to Florida State's Benjamin Locke and Marco Nunez.
