Will Guarino enters his 3rd year as Head Men's & Women's Cross Country Coach at the University of San Diego, and first as a full-time coach. He replaced longtime coach Rich Cota who retired after directing the program for eighteen seasons.
Guarino, a 1988 graduate of the University of San Diego, ran for the Torero cross country program during the 1987 season. He placed 2nd at the West Coast Conference Championships in the 10K race at Crystal Springs with the Toreros placing third overall. That year he was selected the team's Outstanding Runner. He still ranks second all-time at USD for fastest time in a 10K race - he clocked a 32:25 at Woodward Park in Fresno, CA. He is 8th all-time in the 8K distance with a 26:14 showing at the Biola Invitational.
During the 1988-89 season he was assistant cross country coach at Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach where he worked with both the men's and women's programs. He graduated from USD with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and a Minor in Business Administration. A resident of San Diego, he currently runs his own financial planning business.
