(Stanford, CA) - This weekend USD's men's cross country team led by Coach Will Guarino will travel to Stanford to compete in the NCAA West Regional. The men kick the day off with their 10k (6.2 mile) race at 11 a.m. The top two teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team will automatically head to NCAA Finals next weekend in Indiana. In the men's race six teams in the top 30 will be participating including #4 Stanford, #9 Arizona, #13 Portland, #24 Cal Poly, #28 California, # 29 Washington. Also participating in the race are WCC rivals Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, San Francisco, and Santa Clara.
The men's team will be sending four runners, Chris Jacobs, Erik Stoddard, Matt Paur, and Louis Barrios. The men's team consists of all freshmen and this will be their first 10k this season. Top runner Chris Jacobs will look to finish the season on a positive note after leading the men's team to a 7th place finish at WCC Finals. Jacobs has led the team all year after a solid first year as a Torero. Although the team will not be scored as a team because they are only sending four runners, the Toreros hope to make a positive statement.
