SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Behind a dominating balanced offensive attack, the University of San Diego women's basketball team rolled past San Diego Christian, 79-38, in an exhibition game Monday evening at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The Toreros were paced by a double-double from sophomore forward Sophia Ederaine, who had 13 points, 10 rebounds and added in four blocked shots. Junior guard Amy Kame also had a spectacular night, as she recorded a game-high 14 points, on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, while recording five rebounds and dishing out five assists. Alysse Barlow made her Torero debut, and was nothing short of amazing, as she recorded nine points, and dished out a game-high seven assists at the point guard position. In the first half, a Felicia Wijenberg lay-up sparked a 13-5 San Diego run, that was capped on a Kame lay-up to give the Toreros the early momentum with 14:28 to go in the half. After the Hawks called a 30-second timeout, a Ederaine lay-up then ignited a 10-4 Torero run, which gave the home team all the momentum and a comfortable 21-7 lead with 11:10 to go. USD would not ease up, as they would eventually built up a 25-point lead heading into the break, up 44-19.
In the second half, it was more of the same, as USD continued to pull further, and further away from the Hawks, and with 9:08 to go, a Maya Hood jumper gave the Toreros their biggest lead of the game at 71-28, and USD never looked back. The Toreros then cruised their away to a 79-38 win.
