SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's basketball team (6-1) cruised past Point Loma Nazarene (3-3) 81-56 to win their fifth consecutive game Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Toreros were led by junior guard Amy Kame's 18 points and senior forward Klara Wischer, who recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Kame stuffed the stat sheet once again, dishing out seven assists, collecting five rebounds, to go with three steals. The majority of Kame's 18 points came at the free-throw line where she went 10-12 for the night.
The Sea Lions kept the game close in the first half as they opened up an early 18-8 lead to start the game, but the Toreros quickly closed the gap with an 11-0 run midway through the first half to take the lead. USD would not trail again and went in to the locker room at halftime with a 38-30 lead.
The Toreros continued to build on their lead in the second half, going up by as much as 27 at one point (70-43). The Toreros forced 23 Sea Lion turnovers and outrebounded them 52-32, while holding them to 33.3% shooting from the field.
Junior forward Felicia Wijenberg chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds and sophomore forward Katelyn McDaniel continued her impressive play with seven points and seven rebounds (four offensive).
The Toreros look to continue their winning ways Saturday afternoon against their cross-town rival San Diego State (4-2). The game will start at 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports San Diego.
