SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's basketball team held steady at No. 25 in the latest CollegeInsider.com's mid-major top-25 poll after posting a 1-1 record this past week. Neither Portland nor Pepperdine are ranked in this poll.
The Toreros split a pair of WCC games this past week, picking up a 73-70 win over Saint Mary's then falling 62-50 to Gonzaga on Saturday. In Thursday's win, USD held off a late SMC push to claim the 70-73 win. Amy Kame led all scored with her 29 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field, while also pulling down six rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Wijenberg also had a good game, she notched her third consecutive double-digit performance with 13 points, and Sophia Ederaine was the final Torero in double figures, as she had 12 points. As a team, USD shot .508 from the field and held the Gales to just .379 shooting. The Toreros also managed to hold a slight 38-37 edge in the rebounds category.
In Saturday's loss to the Bulldogs, Kame scored her team-high 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, while dishing out four assists. Sophomore forward Katelyn McDaniel finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Toreros. Freshman guard Maya Hood also scored in double figures with 11 points, while Sophia Ederaine had six points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. As a team, USD shot .354 from the floor and out rebounded the Zags 45-38.
The Toreros will return to action on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host the University of Portland inside th4e friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
