In 2007...
Coach "Mac" has made huge strides as she guided the Toreros to a record setting 2007 season. The graduating class last season (Virginia Fritsch, Christina Haake, Alicia Massei, Danielle Treiber) tied or set new records in 12 different single season or career categories. The 2008 senior class is set to leave their mark by the end of the new season. As a team, San Diego accomplished 20 division one wins. They also recorded 24 overall wins, the most since the 2000 season. Coach McElvain also hit the century mark with her 100th career victory as head coach at USD on April 16th in an extra-inning victory over Santa Clara.

In 2006...
The 2006 season was more proof that the USD softball program is turning the corner and transforming the team into a competitive Division I program that could battle for that sought after bid to post season thanks to the efforts of Coach McElvain. In 2006, San Diego captured 22 wins for the first time since 2001. That year, USD also accomplished 18 division one wins. The Toreros also posted ten conference wins, the most in McElvain's history as the skipper for San Diego.

In 2005...
In 2005, McElvain's season was highlighted by the program's first ever victory over cross-town rival San Diego State, defeating the Aztecs 2-0 in an extraordinary extra inning game. Another first was a four-game sweep in conference over Saint Mary's College.

Playing Days...
A 1999 graduate of Oklahoma State, McElvain (formerly Turley) earned All-Big XII honors while playing catcher and second base as well as conference honors. She ranks in the Top 20 all-time at OSU in several categories, including games played, hits, total bases, doubles, RBI and stolen bases. McElvain led the Cowgirls to three post-season appearances and a third place finish in the 1998 Women's College World Series. While at Oklahoma State, she earned All-Big XII academic honors while attaining a Business Administration degree with an emphasis in Marketing. Additionally, she earned the OSU Community Service Contribution Award (1997-98); the NCAA Leadership Award (1998); and was a four-year SAAC Representative, serving as SAAC President in her senior year.

Familiar Territory...
More recently, McElvain completed her Master's Degree in Leadership Studies in 2006 from the University of San Diego. No stranger to the USD Athletic Department, prior to her appointment as softball coach she was Assistant Sports Information Director for a year-and-a-half. A native San Diegan, McElvain attended nearby Patrick Henry HS. Melissa, her husband Ryan and their two year old daughter Mia and newborn daughter Kamryn reside in San Carlos.
