USD falls to No. 5 Texas A&M and University of Utah

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team posted back-to-back losses to the University of Utah and Texas A&M on Friday evening from the USD Softball Complex.

In game one, San Diego posted a 14-6 loss to the University of Utah. The Ute's jumped out to a 10-0 lead over the Toreros in the first inning of play. USD made a pitching change halfway through the inning as Kristen Gensler replaced Jennifer Ellenbeck.

The Toreros rallied in the following three innings starting with a homerun in left field by Jennifer Ellenbeck with Kathleen Bonja on base cutting the lead to 10-2. USD followed with a single run pushed across in the third inning and three more runs in the fourth inning bringing the Toreros within four runs of tying the game.

The Ute's however would score four more runs in the sixth inning ending the game due to the eight-run rule as the Toreros fall 14-6.

In the night cap, San Diego faced No. 5 ranked Texas A&M. The Aggies posted three runs in the first and second inning to take a fast 6-0 lead over USD. Texas A&M would score three more runs run-ruling the Toreros in the fifth inning.

Ellenbeck finished a combined 2-for-4 with one homerun, one run scored and two RBI. Celeste Soto recorded a combined 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Lindsey Fleet finished 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

San Diego returns to the USD Softball Complex for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 15 at 4:30 against Iowa State followed by New Mexico State at 7:00 p.m.
