Softball Game Notes #10
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros (21-24, 6-10) hit the road this weekend when they travel to Loyola Marymount to play the Lions in a four-game PCSC series at Smith Field. Doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday will each start at 12 pm.

The Last Meeting

The Loyola Marymount Lions (27-20, 10-6) return to action after having this past weekend off. They split with BYU in Provo in their last series Apr. 12-13. LMU is currently in second place in the PCSC standings, two games behind BYU. Hannah Montalban (.376 avg., 13 2B, 2 HR, 14 RBI) is the Lions' leading hitter, along with Meghan Harman (.344, 8 2B, 3B, 8 HR, 31 RBI) and Skylar Segura (.336, 9 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 22 RBI). Montalban leads the PCSC in doubles, while Harman paces the conference in home runs so far this year. LMU's pitching attack is led by Sydney Gouveia (1.76 ERA, 14-3, 131.1 IP), who leads the conference in strikeouts. As a team, LMU is near the top of a variety of offensive categories this season and leads the conference in home runs (33) and doubles (68).
LMU leads the all-time series 81-59. Last season the Lions took three of the four games at USD.

Last Time Out...
The Toreros split with Utah Valley at home this past weekend. USD won games one (3-2) and three (5-1) of the series, but lost games two (1-0) and four (4-3). Cassidy Coleman won both of her starts during the series without allowing an earned run in 15.2 IP. Coleman struck out 11 in a complete-game win in game three. At the plate, Dana Prelsnik (.455, 3 R, 3B, RBI) had a great weekend, while Chloe Kaneko (.364, R, 3 RBI) drove in some clutch runs vs. UVU. USD was on the verge of their first series win of the season with a 1-0 lead in the series finale, but UVU mounted a sixth-inning comeback that eventually led to the 4-3 victory.

As of Apr. 21, USD ranks 15th in the NCAA in team ERA (1.84), while Caitlin Rooney (K/44.3 AB) ranks 4th among the NCAA's toughest to strikeout. Rooney has struck out only three times in 133 at-bats this season. RHP Cassidy Coleman is 39th in the nation in strikeouts per 7.0 IP (8.2), while Jenny Lahitte (1.68) sits at 43rd in ERA.
In her last 19 outings, Jenny Lahitte has only allowed three earned runs twice and has allowed fewer than that on every other appearance over that span, including 13 appearances where she has allowed one ER or fewer. The last time Lahitte gave up more than three earned runs was 4 ER vs. Boise State on Mar. 2. Likewise, Cassidy Coleman has not allowed more than three earned runs in an outing since Mar. 3 vs. Fresno State, a string of 13 appearances. Coleman also has not allowed an earned run over her last four outings (22.2 IP).
Fr. C/DP Mary Grabowski leads the team with four multi-RBI games this year. She has tallied 2 RBI on three occasions and 3 RBI once this season.
3B Chloe Kaneko has been hot over her last 10 games, hitting at a team-best .379 (11-for-29) clip with a double, 6 RBI and four runs scored. Morgan Kurtz (.348, 6 R, 2B) has also been hot over that span.
Cassidy Coleman needs 31 strikeouts over the team's final eight games to break the USD career strikeout mark set by Jennifer Ellenbeck (2007-10). Ellenbeck had 447 career Ks, while Coleman currently has 417.
RF Lauren Tomey had a team-best 13-game on-base streak from Feb. 15-Mar. 2. that coincided with a team-best nine-game hitting streak. Morgan Kurtz is the only other Torero to post an on-base streak of at least 10 games; she had a 10-gamer from Mar. 2-16.
