PORTLAND, Ore. - The Pacific Coast Softball Conference announced its 2008 all-conference team Monday. The team was voted on by the conference's six head coaches, and coaches could not vote for their own players. The Toreros earned four all-conference honors.
"I am very proud of our All-Conference selections," said head coach Melissa McElvain. "These four individuals provided great leadership to our team this season."
Junior Lindsey Fleet earned All PCSC Second Team honors at first base along with senior teammate Kathleen Bonja for her play at third base. Fleet finished the season with the highest overall batting average of .329 to go with her 18 doubles, five homeruns, and 39 RBI. Bonja had the highest conference batting average with .338 hitting eight doubles, four homeruns, and 23 RBI.
Sophomores Carey Casciola and Jennifer Ellenbeck earned honorable mention honors for their season performance. Casciola had the second highest overall batting average with .326 hitting 12 doubles, three triples and 18 RBI. Ellenbeck finished with six doubles, six homeruns (Tied for first place this season), and 23 RBI.
Sunday night was also the team banquet and awards dinner. The MVP of the season, as voted on by the players, was sophomore Carey Casciola. Taking home Offensive Player of the Year was Lindsey Fleet. Casciola also earned the Defensive Player of the Year award. Celeste Soto earned the Rookie of the Year award for her 55 starts, nine doubles, six homeruns, and 25 RBI. And finally, the Coaches Award given to the player with a good attitude, solid day in and day out effort, and heart was given to senior Celine Pujol who finished her career hitting .300 this season, with six hits, three doubles, and five RBI.

The Toreros had a number of highlights this season. Including a 6-5 victory over No. 17 ranked San Diego State on March 7 at the Diamond Devil Classic. Nine opponents USD faced this season advanced to regional's. The Toreros set a number of team overall marks including a new high of 22 homeruns and overall hits with 376 to name a couple. The Toreros were also honored by the NCAA for their Academic Progress Rating as being in the top 10 percent in the nation and one of only 29 softball teams to achieve this standard.
The off season is underway as the USD coaching staff hits the recruiting trail in preparation for their non-traditional season which begins in the fall.
