MALIBU, Calif. - The University of San Diego swim and dive team opened the Beach Cup in style on Friday afternoon from Pepperdine's Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool by winning three events on the first day of competition, putting them in first place with 211 total points. USD was followed by Fresno State's 205 points, Loyola Marymount at 171 and host Pepperdine at 70.
The Toreros started the day by winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:46.62. USD's B and C relays finished back-to-back in 5th and 6th place, respectively.
USD's Keenan Lineback captured the first individual event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle. Lineback clocked a 5:01.05, which put her just ahead of teammate Taylor Noonan, who finished 2nd at 5:02.95. Melissa Andruzzi wasn't far behind in 4th place with her swim of 5:07.26.
Andruzzi then posted the top USD time in the 200-yard individual medley when she finished at 2:10.46, placing her 3rd in the event. Sarah Reierson came in two spots behind Andruzzi in 5th place with a time of 2:12.22.
The Toreros just missed out on another 1st place finish when Jacquie Kimmel placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.90. Kelly Stone (24.38) and Francesca Finucane (24.39) finished in 4th and 5th place, respectively.
USD then wrapped up their second relay win of the day when the A relay touched first with a swim of 7:40.33 in the 800-yard freestyle relay. The Toreros' B relay came in 4th at 7:54.99.
In 3-meter diving results, USD's Mathilda Danckler placed 3rd, while Molly Robson placed 7th.
Day two of the meet is set to begin with the morning session starting at 10 am followed by the afternoon session around 2 pm.
