SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swimming and diving team hosted their final meet of the 2008-2009 campaign taking on crosstown rival San Diego State Saturday on an afternoon of wild weather that included a brief hail storm. Despite the 175-125 loss, the Toreros were all smiles as they celebrated their senior send off. Brittany Cramer, Sarah Gleason, Samantha Jafari, Meghan O'Brien, and Erin Voyles all finished their final regular season swim meet of their college careers.
The Toreros relay squad (Yoon, Geerdes, Rodriguez, and Levesque) started out with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay finishing in 1:50.33.
Sarah Gleason had two first place finishes in the distance events. She scored a 1000 freestyle time of 10:22.38 and a 500 freestyle time of 5:05.79. Erin Voyles had a pair of second place finishes in the 100 and 200 freestyle events. Her 100 freestyle time was 54.26 while her 200 freestyle time was 1:55.40. She was edged out by teammate Sarah Geerdes who took first place in both events capturing a 52.62 time in the 100 freestyle and a 1:53:00 time in the 200 freestyle. Geerdes also took first place in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2;08.43.
Kristen Yoon had a solid afternoon finishing in first place in the 100 backstroke at 58.49 and third place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.41. Teammate Jessica Rodriguez also had two good results taking second place in the 200 butterfly at 2:09.50 and a third place finish in the 100 butterfly in 59.64.
To finish off the meet, the 400 freestyle relay "A" squad (Yoon, Levesque, Gleason, and Voyles) took first place in the 3:52.90.
The Toreros take the next few weeks to gear up for the Western Athletic Conference championship on Feb. 25-28 in San Antonio, Texas.
