SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD swim and dive team had a strong day of swimming action on Saturday in a double dual against Oregon State and UC Davis at the USD Sports Center Pool. The Toreros were edged in the final scores, falling to UC Davis by a final tally of 173.5-123.5 and to Oregon State 154-133, but had a number of outstanding performances on the day.
Leading the way was Jackie Taylor winning the 100 freestyle with a career-best 52.37. Taylor also took second place in the 50 free (24.86) and fourth in the 200 free (1:54.49). Meanwhile, Keenan Lineback claimed a first-place finish in the 400 IM (4:23.61). Lineback capped off a strong day with a second-place showing in the 200 fly (2:03.94) and another second-place finish in the 500 free (5:02.55).
Gwen Walter also had an impressive showing on the day by taking second in the 200 freestyle (1:53.80) and later finishing fourth in the 500 free (5:07.21).
Sarah Reierson posted two more top-3 finishes for the Toreros when she came in third in the 100 backstroke (59.16). She was followed by Lexie Franz (59.55) in that event. Reierson also placed third in the 200 back (2:06.73). Again, Franz came in right behind Reierson with a time of 2:07.97.
Christina Jonsson notched a pair of top-5 finishes for USD when she came in third in the 400 IM (4:34.74) and fourth in the 200 breast (2:24.15).
Sammi Cohn finished in the top-5 with a fifth-place swim in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.60). Likewise, Taylor Noonan placed fourth in the 1000 freestyle (10:36.79) and fifth in the 100 fly (59.39).
In the relays, the Toreros' A (Beall, Deiparine, Noonan, Franz) took fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:51.72), while USD's A relay (Reierson, Noonan, Walter, Taylor) came in second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.87) just behind Oregon State.
In diving action, Mathilda Danckler had a strong showing as she took second in both diving events with scores of 266.25 and 255.97. Fellow diver Morgan White registered scores of 211.80 and 186.75, good for sixth place in each event.
The Toreros return to action when they host Loyola Marymount on Nov. 9 at noon at the Sports Center Pool.
