LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swim and dive squad lost to No. 15 UCLA Friday afternoon by a score of 198-92 at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center. Despite the loss, the Toreros were able to swim in some different events than usual, giving the team some valuable experience.
USD's A relay (Reierson, Andruzzi, Stone, Kimmel) kicked off the day with a fifth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay and a time of 1:48.66. The B relay (Franz, Cohn, Taylor, Lee) finished right behind them in sixth place at 1:52.48.
The first individual event of the day, the 1000 yard freestyle, saw Taylor Noonan post the Toreros' top time at 10:28.74, which was good for fifth place in the event. Morgan Scarth came in sixth with a time of 10:55.68.
Melissa Andruzzi and Keenan Lineback finished back-to-back in the 200 yard freestyle. Andruzzi came in at 1:56.41, which was good for ninth place, while Lineback clocked a 1:57.28 in 10th place.
Noonan again posted USD's top time, this time in the 100 yard backstroke, where she swam a 59.47 that put her in eighth place overall. Haley Cahill had USD's next-best time at 1:02.59 in 10th place.
In the 100 yard breaststroke, Sammi Cohn put together a sixth-place swim of 1:07.34. She was followed in seventh place by Sarah Reierson, who finished in 1:11.11 and Scarth in eighth place at 1:16.12.
The 200 yard butterfly had Eleanor Phillips
clock a 2:10.28, which put her in eighth place, while Makenzie Anderson
finished in 10th place with a time of 2:14.48.
Francesca Finucane came up with USD's top time in the 50 yard freestyle with a swim of 24.26. Jacquie Kimmel trailed right behind in eighth place with a time of 24.51.
Finucane then put together another solid swim when she finished in fifth place in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.40. Kimmel came in ninth at 54.29.
In the 200 yard backstroke, Sarah Reierson clocked the team's best time at 2:06.70, putting her in eighth place. Lineback finished in 10th place at 2:12.95, followed by Olivia Campbell in 11th at 2:20.11.
Andruzzi finished in sixth place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.26. Katie Olsen wasn't far behind as she came in eighth with a swim of 2:36.74.
The 500 yard freestyle featured a seventh-place finish by Noonan, who finished in 5:07.93. Anderson came in behind Noonan with a 5:25.22, which was good for eighth place.
In the 100 yard butterfly, Kelly Stone notched the Toreros' top time with her seventh-place swim of 59.18, while Reierson finished in 1:00.25, which put her in eighth place.
Lineback was the Toreros' top finisher in the 200 yard IM when she finished in seventh place with a time of 2:10.65. Cohn wasn't far behind as she finished in eighth place at 2:13.36.
The final event of the day, the 400 yard freestyle relay, had USD's A relay (Lee, Stone, Noonan, Finucane) finish in fifth place at 3:36.91, with the B relay (Taylor, Jones, Baker, Cahill) right behind in sixth place at 3:42.60.
On the diving side, Mathilda Danckler's one-meter score of 226.70 put her in sixth place overall, while Ellen Jajewski scored a 163.85, which was good for eighth place, and Molly Robson had a 139.70, putting her in ninth. In the three-meter event, Danckler again finished sixth, this time with a score of 243.90, while Robson was seventh with a 152.10.
USD wraps up the 2012 portion of their schedule when they travel to the Husky Invitational in Federal Way, Wash. Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
