SAN DIEGO, Calif. - University of San Diego Head Coach Mike Keeler has announced that the swimming and diving team will begin the year with a new coaching staff. The team has hired 2003 alumni Kaitlin Bourne as the assistant swimming and diving coach and hired Michael Hilde as the diving coach, an alum from the University of Southern California.
"I am honored by the new addition of Kaitlin Bourne and Mike Hilde to the USD swimming and diving coaching staff," said head coach Mike Keeler.
Bourne set numerous school records for USD during her days as a Torero. After graduating she traveled to new Mexico working on a photography expedition. She spent time in 2004 in Northern New Mexico at the Taos Ski Valley ski school teaching lessons and moved to Colorado in 2005 to return to swimming as the Assistant Coach at Colorado State University. After two years with the Rams, Bourne attended the Bikram Yoga teacher training in 2007 and traveled around Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Washington and California for the past three years teaching yoga.
"Kaitlin brings a great combination of USD values and loyalty, along with being a USD graduate and swim team member," said Keeler.
Hilde is a four year diver from USC where he had great success attended the NCAA diving championships all four years of his career with the Trojans. Prior to attending USC, he won a combined five Junior Olympic national titles in 1998 and 2000 and win the 3-meter title at the 2003 Junior Nationals event. Since graduating from USC, he's been a key part of the USC Diving Club.
"The team is lucky to have Mike on our staff," said Keeler. "He brings NCAA championship experience plus high level coaching with the Trojan Diving Club."
The Toreros will spend the fall training and preparing for competition scheduled to begin in October.
