LOS ANGELES, CA - The University of San Diego women's tennis team dropped their first road match of the 2006 season to 5th ranked USC by a score of 7-0 Wednesday at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles.
The Toreros, currently ranked 64th in the nation, received a doubles victory from the senior duo of Emma Murphy and Lauren Perl who took an 8-4 win over USC's Lindsey Nelson and Luana Magnani. Helene Lindstrand and Jenny Brown paired up in the No. 2 spot but lost 8-1, and Sophia Vogt and Brittany Reitz also lost 8-1 in No. 3 doubles.
In the singles ladder, Emma Murphy held her opponent to a tight first set but couldn't hang on as she dropped her match by scores of 7-6, 6-1. In the No. 4 slot, Helene Lindstrand took her opponent to a third-set tiebreaker in which she lost (4-6, 6-2, 10-7). In other singles action, senior Jenny Brown lost to third-ranked Amanda Fink (6-3, 6-1) and Lauren Perl, Brittany Reitz, and Sophia Vogt all dropped their matches in the No. 3, 5, and 6 spots, respectively.
San Diego next heads to UC Berkeley for a 12:00 pm match on Saturday, January 28.
