ITA Southwest Regional Championship Tournament Hub
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team competed in the ITA Regional Championships over the weekend at the Barnes Tennis Center and San Diego State. Out of the five Toreros competing in singles, Anna Depenau advanced the furthest, making it to the Round of 32.
Depenau, who received a first round bye, knocked off San Diego State's Kennedy Davis in her first singles match 7-6, 6-2. However, Depenau fell in the following round to Long Beach State's Ebba Unden, the 15th seed in the tournament, 6-1, 7-6 (5).
Shani Blecher also won her first singles match, beating LMU's Lisa Piller 6-0, 6-0, but then fell to Long Beach State's Hayley Thompson 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 64.
Marta Stojanovic drew a tough draw, facing the 5th seed Lacey Smith of Arizona in the first round. Stojanovic fell to Smith 6-1, 6-1, but was able to earn a victory in the first round of consolation, knocking off Pepperdine's Pattarapor Salirathavibhaga 6-4, 6-4. Stojanovic then fell in the second round of the consolation bracket to SDSU's Dora Somoracz after withdrawing due to injury.
Janine Koleta lost some tough battles in her singles matches. Koleta lost to Hawaii's Xenia Suworowa 6-3, 6-1 in the first round and to Cal State Fullerton's Morgan McIntosh 6-0, 6-1 in the consolation-opening round.
Idil Haciraifoglu also fell in singles, losing to Pepperdine's Yuki Chiang 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, Depenau and Koleta fell in the opening round to San Diego State's Olivia Larsson and Dora Somoracz 8-5.
The Toreros return to action November 8 when they participate in the ASU Invitational.
