The nine WCC schools put a total of 1,093 student-athletes on the list from the 13 sports that the conference sponsors, which is another new conference record.
Taylor Paschen and Chris Flaherty each set team records in the 1000 meter.
Junior (2011-12): Clocked the top USD times in three of the four races she competed in during the fall: Riverside Invitational (6k; 21:36.1), Titan Invitational (5k; 18:05.0) and WCC Championships (6k; 22:22)... Finished in 24th place at the WCC Championships... Also ran in the NCAA Western Regionals, finishing in 204th place with a 6k time of 24:27... In the spring track season, she only competed in two meets, running the one mile and the 5000m... Named to the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll with a 3.62 GPA.
Sophomore (2010-11): Earned second-team All-WCC honors...Also named to the 2010-11 WCC Commissioners' Honor Roll with a 3.55 GPA.
High School: Prior to her attendance at USD, Kristy was a student at Canyon High School, where she began her running career by gaining experience in cross country and track. She was a four year letter winner for both of these sports. She was the team MVP for cross country her final two years, as well as All-CIF. During her senior year she was also named "OC Scholar Athlete", Century League MVP for long distance, and she was the 2 mile Century League Champion. In track she was also named as the MVP for three consecutive years. Her senior year statistics are 11:04 for the 3200m, 5:15 for the 1600m, and 17:38 for three miles in cross country.
Personal: Kristy was born on June 28th, 1991 to parents Karen and Al Koenes. Several schools recruited Kristy including Santa Clara, San Jose State, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and San Francisco State, but Kristy says that "I chose to attend USD because of the location, the academics, and the religious atmosphere."
