LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's track team competed in their final track meet of the 2009 season as the Toreros traveled to Occidental College to face high quality division one competition. Freshman Nichole Buck led the team with a gold-medal finish in the 800 meter run that broke the USD school record.
The women's 800 meter run was broken up into five sections with Nichole Buck being placed in the fourth section, with competition from Point Loma, Whittier, UC Irvine, and Cal St. Hayward. Buck was seeded with a 2:25.00 time and finished in first place for a gold medal with a mark of 2:21.71, more than .10 seconds faster than the second place time in her section. Teammate Alex Clancy was placed in section five and earned a fourth place finish in 2:36.15.
In the women's 200 meter dash, Heather Hippensteel represented the Toreros in the seventh section. Entering with a seed time of 28.67, Hippensteel finished beating her mark with a 28.49 for first place.
In the women's 1500 meter run, six Toreros competed in two different sections. In section four, Nicole Riley finished in a team high third place with a time of 5:22.61. Katie Case took sixth place (5:34.59) followed by teammate Christine Nolan (5:55.24) in seventh place. In section three, Stephanie Sollars finished a team high 10th place with a 5:12.07. Sally Kallet took 13th overall (5:14.89) followed by Tracy Vargo (5:24.98) in 14th place.
In the 100 meter dash, Heather Hippensteel ran in section six with a seed time of 13.39. Hippensteel finished in fourth place, just .03 seconds off her seed time with a 13.42 mark.

In the women's 400 meter dash, Haley Cox ran in section five for San Diego. She entered with a seed time of 66.79. Cox ran well taking fourth place with a 65.93.
The Toreros finished the day with the 5000 meter run with three athletes competing. Laura Wells finished in 33rd with a time of 19:09.11. Liz Ramos finished in 36th place with a time of 19:35.93 followed by teammate Dana Dancey with a time of 22:05.40.
On the men's side, senior Mark Hubbard thrilled the USD fans with a career best 800 meter time of 2:00.63. Senior Joe Horsman raced well by winning his heat in the 100 meter finishing with a time of 11.70, and had a great finishing mark in the 200 meter dash with a 23.27 for fourth place thanks to great acceleration into the last 80 meters.
