HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB: Played volleyball at Valley Christian High School all four years...as a senior led team in kills (369), assists (533), and aces (96) en route to a first-team All-State, first-team All-West Catholic Athletic League and a first-team All-San Jose Mercery News selection...as a senior she was selected by PrepVolleyball as a Senior Ace (No. 39) and named second-team Academic All-American by PrepVolleyball...as a junior she was identified as a top-50 junior recruit by PrepVolleyball...as a junior and sophomore she was named first-team All-WCAL, and as a freshman she was a All-WCAL honorable mention recipetient...played club volleyball for the Vision 18-Gold team, where she helped the team to two Bronze medals in 18-Open Division at Junior National Championships (in 2009 and 2010)...in 2010, she helped lead her club team to a 70-4 record... named to the All-Tournament Team in 18-Open Division (in 2010)...won national qualifiers at Colorado Crossroads (2010), Lone Star (2009) and Far Westerns (2009). PERSONAL: Rachel Kailani Alvey was born on March 15, 1992 in San Jose, Calif....she is the daughter of Randy and Theresa Alvey...was also recruited by Florida, Rice, Texas Christian, UC Davis, and Saint Mary's...chose to attend USD because of the strong academic opportunities, outstanding volleyball program, and the beautiful campus and location... notes that she studied piano seriously for eight years, and if she didn't play volleyball, she would have been a tennis player.
