JUNIOR (2011): Played in 29 matches with 21 starts...recorded 109 kills and had 45 total blocks... helped lead the team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament...recorded 10 kills in a win against Duke (9/8/11)...recorded nine kills against Santa Clara (11/17/11)...recorded eight kills in a win against Indiana (9/17/11)...helped lead the team to the best overall record in program history at 28-5.
SOPHOMORE (2010): Appeared in 11 matches during the regular season at middle hitter... helped lead the team to the 2010 WCC Championship...tallied 25 kills on 54 swings with six errors for a .352 hitting percentage...added five digs and nine blocks...had a season-high six kills against Kansas State (8/29/10).
FRESHMAN (2009): As a freshman, played in nine matches for the Toreros from the middle hitter position...helped the Toreros to a second place finish in WCC play...recorded five kills with a .364 attack percentage in a 3-0 Torero victory over San Jose State (9/19/09)...finished with 10 kills on the season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned four varsity letters while playing at Garces Memorial High School...she is a three-time All-Southeast Yosemite League selection...ended her career as the schools all-time leader in kills (1,060) and blocks (365)...as a senior she had 173 kills, while hitting at a .533 clip...as a senior she was named the US Marine Corps Female Athlete of the Year and was named a Prep-Volleyball 2009 senior ace...as a junior she hit for a .583 clip and had 111 total blocks...played club volleyball for Club Jamba, where the teams she has played on have consistently ended-up in the top 20 of the national festivals...while playing both club and in high school, whe was named to numerous all-tournament teams.
PERSONAL: Shelby V. Staab was born on August 24, 1991...she is the daughter of John and Vinda Staab...was heavily recruited by Long Beach State, Cal Poly, Loyola Marymount, Texas, UC Berkeley, Hawaii and several others...chose to attend USD because of the outstanding volleyball program with an amazing coaching staff, strong academics, that fact that USD is a faith based university and because of the location.
