SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's volleyball team moved up one spot to No. 16 in the latest AVCA top-25 polls, after posting a 2-1 record this past week.
USD posted a 2-1 record this past weekend at the USC Tournament, as they dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to No. 5 USC, then bounced back with a 3-2 win over Notre Dame and a 3-0 sweep of Cal Poly. In Friday's loss to the Trojans, Carrie Baird led the team with 16 kills, while also recording 14 digs to record a double-double. Alaysia Brown recorded a career-high 14 kills, while hitting at a .311 clip, and both Chloe Ferrari and Katie Hoekman recorded 11 kills apiece. Junior setter Rachel Alvey recorded a season-high 51 assists in helping steer the USD offense to a .222 team attack percentage. Kandiss Anderson recorded a season-high 22 digs.
In Saturday's win over the Irish, Brown recorded her 13 kills on 25 swings, while only committing three errors to hit for a .400 clip, while Baird had 13 kills and added in 14 digs to post her second consecutive double-double. Anderson had an impressive match, as she recorded 20 digs, while Alvey recorded 29 assists, and Jianna Bonomi recorded 26 assists in helping steer the Torero offense to a .204 team attack percentage.
In Saturday's sweep over the Mustangs, Hoekman led all players with her 13 kills on 19 swings, while committing no errors to hit for a .684 clip. Brown recorded 12 kills on 23 swings, while committing three errors to hit for a .391 clip. Anderson led the defensive charge with 17 digs, while Alvey recorded 21 assists in helping steer the USD offense to a .280 attack percentage.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday at 7 p.m., as they host Fresno State in their home-opener as part of the USD Tournament.
